At the age of 63, our founder, Claude Stratford started a business from the basement in his home making and selling a range of bee products.

His founding vision was “to care for the community, producing natural products that work and acting in a way which preserves the environment for generations to come’”.

Two years later in 1976, Alan Bougen, then a 26 year old idealist, became Claude’s business partner, inspired by his unique values and entrepreneurial spirit. Pioneers ahead of their time, Claude and Alan set out to change people’s perceptions of natural health.

As beekeepers, they believed strongly in the therapeutic properties of bee products, and in the early 70s were the first to export New Zealand Manuka honey in a jar, challenging the industry status quo of trading in “bulk” honey. Today we are the world’s largest producer of high grade Manuka honey.

In his 90’s Claude is still bright and active. His secret? Two teaspoons of Bee Pollen, Manuka honey and Olive Leaf Extract every day!
