Sustainability and the Environment: Working In Harmony with Nature

Chapter 7:  Sustainability is something that has always run deep in our DNA.  We are practically environmentalists by default.  We have to be.  That’s because beekeeping is all about biodiversity and stewarding, wherever possible, the natural world to create the very best natural products.  So by sheer virtue of our beekeeping heritage there is an unspoken common ethos within Comvita about environmental care and being as respectful to the planet and its resources as possible.

Right from the outset we have looked for smarter ways to do things.  We stayed away from gas guzzling cars and way back in the 80’s we even used solar power and other novel methods to all heat our water without unnecessarily drawing on the grid. Small initiatives that supported our underlying our ethos of doing good.

Today is no different.  We do our best - from the simple things - like recycling our factory and office waste, composting at our café, and using hybrid and fuel efficient vehicles - to the harder, more challenging tasks.

We are assessing the sustainability of our processes, our factory, our raw materials and all our key products over their entire lifecycle and reducing their carbon footprint.  We call this our “Hive to Honey” initiative.

Ultimately the bottom-line for Comvita is the ideal of a healthy natural world.

A world where we can live well by using the raw power of nature.  A world where our lifestyle and relationship with nature has a far better natural balance.
