Media Release: September 2011
It has been estimated that women use nine personal care products every day. On average, these products contain 126 unique chemicals. As up to 60% of what we put on our skin is absorbed, this means women can absorb up to 2kg of chemicals every year. *
While this can be a rather alarming statistic to contemplate, the good news is this: the science of skincare has advanced to the point where the benefits of natural ingredients have been unlocked and are having profoundly effective results on skin.
But with so many skincare brands claiming to be natural, how can you tell - and trust - what is truly natural or not?
That’s the beauty of the international Natural Products Association™ (NPA) Certification and its Natural Seal, which you will now find on Comvita’s® skincare range. The prestigious and strict NPA Certification is only given after an intensive process to ensure every ingredient in every single product in the Comvita® skincare range is deemed natural, safe to use, environmentally responsible and sustainable.
Yes, that’s right – in order to be able to use the NPA seal on Comvita® skincare products, each ingredient has been totally scrutinized and tracked right back through the supply chain. This is no mean feat when you consider a product such as the Daily Moisturiser with SPF15 has 19 ingredients alone.
Each ingredient has been independently examined and checked to ensure only approved natural extraction methods have been used and that no harmful processing aids or preservatives are involved. The ingredient list on the packaging has been studied to make sure that what it says is in the product is actually in the product and that no ingredients with any suspected health concerns have been used.
Certification such as the NPA seal is the only way customers can trust the guarantee that what you’re using on your skin is indeed, truly natural and safe to use.
Comvita®’s Leigh Kite, General Manager Personal Care, said the NPA Certification comes after a Datamonitor report which found consumers are concerned about misleading natural and organic claims on cosmetic and beauty products.
The report found 30% of consumers question the credibility of these claims. The consumer perception has significant founding as cosmetics brands don’t require certification to make ‘natural’ claims.
“Products with natural-sounding names or one organic ingredient can often imply they are natural and good-for-you. That isn’t always the case,” Leigh said.
“Conversely, ingredients with long or scientific sounding names aren’t always synthetic or man-made. And your skin recognizes, and is much more able to metabolize, natural ingredients than synthetic ones.”
“Natural cosmetics are the fastest growing trend in the world today because people simply want effective skincare that’s safe for your skin and safe for the environment too.
“We wanted our customers to have total confidence and trust in Comvita®’s skincare range. We stand behind each and every ingredient in our range.”
