Cold Season Is Upon Us, Here’s How to Support Your Kids’ Immune Systems
By Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RDN
I remember like it was yesterday. I was standing in the cereal aisle in the grocery store and saw a huge front of package claim on an ultra-sugary cereal saying “will boost your child’s immunity!” I was appalled. As a mom at the time to a toddler and a baby, I knew all too well what helped make immunity strong (and what didn’t). The first step in boosting immunity involves making sure your child has a balanced, nutrient dense, colorful diet. Once healthy habits are the norm, kids’ natural defenses are off to a good start.
My secret weapon for healthy immunity this season however will be a spoonful or sucker a day from the Comvita Kids line. Manuka honey provides an effective army against those pesky bugs that may try and infiltrate your little one’s body this fall and winter. Plus, the Comvita Kids line has additional immune supporters like zinc, plus Vitamins C and D for extra added protection.
Another way to promote superpower immunity is with restful sleep, and Comvita Kids can help there too. I often tell my patients that junk food and lack of sleep are two of the biggest immunity zappers. I saw this first hand when my little boy came down with an awful sore throat and cold in the first week back to school. His constant coughing later in the day would surely have cost him the precious sleep he needed to get his immunity back in gear. A spoonful of Comvita Kids Night-Time Soothing Syrup not only made him feel better by soothing his throat, but allowed me the assurance that he would sleep through the night. Another spoonful in the morning of the Day-Time Soothing Syrup, and he was soon back on his feet!
Food is medicine, and Manuka Honey is one of nature’s wonder foods. Comvita Kids has turned the power of real Manuka Honey into a hard-working wellness formula my patients’ families, and my own kids, actually love.
