DIY Moisturizing and Exfoliating Manuka Honey Face Mask
The summer can be really hard on your skin - long days in the sun, harsh sunscreens, and sweat, all take its toll. That’s why we created this all-natural, moisturizing and exfoliating DIY face mask with UMF® Manuka Honey, Lemon, and Raw Sugar.
A little backstory on honey:
Honey has been used topically for centuries for its powerful antibacterial properties. Unfortunately, not all honey is created equal. In fact, most of the average honeybear honey you see in the grocery stores, lack the unique wellness compounds that are really rewarding for your skin. When it comes to beneficial properties, no honey compares to UMF® Manuka Honey which contains guaranteed levels of leptosperin, methylglyoxal, and DHA. (Read more about the importance of UMF here.) For this recipe, we recommend using a Manuka Honey with a high UMF® rating (15+, 20+) to really get the most out of this face mask. Shop them here.
DIY Manuka Honey, Lemon, and Sugar Face Mask
1 tablespoon UMF® Manuka Honey
1 teaspoon raw sugar
Nourishing & detoxifying
Calming & soothing
Why we love this recipe:
Honey is a natural humectant, meaning it helps to seal in moisture in the skin for a dewy, glowing complexion. Honey is also great for cleansing pores and protecting skin cells from bacteria that cause acne, redness, and inflammation. Lemons are filled with AHA’s and BHA’s that remove dead skin cells and help clear up blackheads, acne, and discoloration. The reason why we add raw sugar to this recipe is because, like honey, sugar helps to retain the moisture in the skin. It is also a great exfoliant that won’t irritate sensitive, sun-dried skin.
Mix sugar and honey in a small bowl. Add the juice from ½ a lemon to the bowl (not too much lemon as this will cause the mask to be runny). Stir until combined. Apply the mask on your face and neck, leave on for 20 minutes. To remove the mask, use a warm wash cloth and gently rub in circular motions to exfoliate as you clean.
*For best results, apply nightly 1-2 times a week.
