As a child growing up in Cameroon, West Africa, honey was part of our everyday lifestyle. If any of us had a cough, our mother would give us raw ginger with a tablespoon of raw honey. If one was feeling sad, it was a spoonful of raw honey that she would offer as a feel-good remedy. If one had a little wound, she would apply raw honey to it to keep the bad bugs away. For a persistent cold, she would make a drink composed of fresh ginger, garlic and raw honey. These traditional home remedies passed down from my grandmama to my mother somehow worked. As a kid I never thought this way of living was different until I moved to the United States.

This recipe below is one of my all-time favorite drinks I make for my family. In addition to supporting daily immunity, Manuka Honey and Turmeric are known for having anti-inflammatory properties, and supporting healthy digestion.

Here’s what you’ll need:

Ingredients:

Serving size: 2 adults/4 kids servings

  • 2 cups cashew milk or almond milk (your choice)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated turmeric
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1- 2 tablespoons Comvita UMF™ Manuka Honey (to taste)

Turmeric Latte Ingredients

Directions:

  • Grate 1 teaspoon of fresh turmeric root and set aside
  • Add the cashew or almond milk to a small pot with 1 cinnamon stick and heat on medium heat for about 2-3 minutes, whisking constantly until the milk is hot but not boiling.
  • Turn off the heat, add the freshly grated turmeric, cover the pot, and allow the elixir to brew for 5 minutes.
  • Strain out cinnamon and turmeric, add a spoonful (or two) of Comvita UMF™ Manuka Honey and serve warm.
