We Can Bee Heroes: World Bee Day 2019
May 20th is World Bee Day, honoring how important these pollinators are for our ecosystem, the threats they experience from pesticides, climate change, and development in their natural habitats, and how humans (and beekeepers!) can help bees thrive.
Comvita is partnering with The Nature Conservancy to make the world more Bee-Friendly: for every Instagram post tagging #WeCanBeeHeroes posted in May, Comvita will donate $2 toward conservation, up to $10,000. So join the @ComvitaUSA community, find inspiration from nature and help us raise consciousness for bees.

World Bee Day
May is the crucial month for pollination throughout the northern hemisphere, while in the southern, it’s the season for honey production. May 20th also happens to be the birthday of one of the first pioneers of beekeeping, Slovenian Anton Janša (1734–1773). Museums, conservatories, and sustainable brands from Italy to New Zealand, to the U.S. participate in honoring World Bee Day.
Much More Than Honey-Makers
The honey bee is the only insect that produces food humans eat. We rely on honey bees for nearly one-third of our entire food supply. Foods like avocados, almonds, apples, coffee, oranges, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, and garlic would not exist without bees to pollinate them. Bees play a vital role in producing a healthy and functional ecosystem. Plants depend on bees to reproduce, insects depend on plants for food and shelter, small animals depend on insects for food, larger animals depend on small animals and plants for food, shelter and medicine - and so on up the food chain. It is necessary that we learn to understand how to protect this species, as a world without bees will affect every aspect of our way of life.
We are thrilled to take part in World Bee Day 2019 in efforts to support bee conservation. Be sure to follow us all month long for inspiration and life lessons from bees, and learn what you can do to be part of the solution.
