Comvita’s Heartbeat

Our People, Our Culture, Our Heritage

Chapter 9:  Our people: An “army of believers”
When I think about my journey with Comvita and how we have come to be the company we are today, I have to say that our people really have been our key to success.  They really are our heroes.  Our backbone.

But our people are more than just family, they are also our culture. They give us the energy that makes our business buzz.  Over the years we have beenextremely lucky to have what we today call our “army of believers. ”Our employees say there’s something special about working at Comvita and that’s why they choose to work here.  Its about an ethos that has been built up by all of those who have contributed so much over the past 35 years.

When we started in the late 70’s people began to join us from all over the country just because they identified with what we were doing.  They wanted to be a part of it.  We were headquartered in rural New Zealand and there weren’t enough houses to go around.  So we provided our people with caravans and community housing.  For them it wasn’t about the money, or the flash house. We were all driven by passion for making a difference and a drive to really take Comvita to the world.  They worked hard.  We all did.  For all their lack of luxury, those caravans provided the company with a sense of community no money could buy. They provided Comvita with the foundation of what we call our “extended family.”
