Olive Leaf Extract

Nature's synergy from fresh leaves

Ingredients background

Watch the video to see the special world of our Olive Leaf Farm, and the people who help tend and harvest the trees that make our Fresh-Picked Comvita Olive Leaf Extract.

Always ask “Is it made from fresh olive leaves?”

We use only fresh leaves in our extracts, rather than dried leaves or reconstituted powders. Scientific testing shows that liquid Olive Leaf Extracts made directly from fresh leaves have a broader spectrum potency. By using fresh leaves – harvested at sunrise, and concentrated before lunch – we avoid drying, damage and decay.

It also means that we are not artificially boosting the compounds in isolation, we retain the balanced combination of antioxidants as found naturally in the original fresh leaf.

The ‘natural balance’ in a fresh olive leaf provides a more powerful free radical scavenging capacity than when the individual components are isolated – this involves a synergistic action between flavonoids, oleuropeosides and phenols.

Each 5mL of Comvita Fresh-Picked Olive Leaf Extract contains Olea Europea (Olive) Leaf Extract equivalent to approximately 5g of fresh leaf, standardised to contain 22mg of Oleuropein.

The main active compound in Olive Leaf Extract is Oleuropein. Comvita’s unique fresh leaf extraction system delivers Oleuropein plus other naturally occurring polyphenols. The plant polyphenols in Olive Leaf Extract work synergistically to deliver benefits greater than the action of Oleuropein alone.

We all know fresh juices are much better for our health if they are freshly squeezed rather than reconstituted from dry powders. It’s exactly the same for olive leaf extract.

Comvita Fresh-Picked Olive Leaf Extract does not contain any artificial flavours, colourings, preservatives, alcohol, sugar, lactose, starch, yeast, gluten or animal products.

Around the globe there exists a high level of wellness pressures, both environmental and social, such as pollution, food safety and living density. These factors place increased tension on the ability for people to achieve the basics of life. As a result, we are seeing a greater demand for natural, pure, preventative health solutions.

Fresh-Picked Olive Leaf Extract is traditionally used to support and maintain a healthy immune system, and help provide relief from the symptoms of the common cold, sore throats and coughs.

It is a powerful antioxidant and free radical scavenger, with five times the antioxidant activity of an equivalent amount of Vitamin C.

The high level of polyphenols helps to maintain cardiovascular health, support normal blood pressure and maintain normal cholesterol levels in healthy individuals.

The Mixed Berry variety is flavoured using all natural ingredients, and are a great way to add Fresh-Picked Olive Leaf Extract in your favourite juice or smoothie.

Olive Leaf Extract Natural flavour combines well with a green juice or bitter lemon cordial, while the natural Peppermint flavour adds a great zing to a refreshing peppermint iced tea.

Sustainability:

As the world’s largest specialised olive leaf grove it is very important for us to set a global example in our environmental planning.

100% of our products are harvested in a sustainable manner. Once planted, our olive trees never need replacing as we simply remove their foliage every 12-18 months and it grows back using the nutrients provided by our home made worm fertilisers.

We believe that nature intends for the whole environment, and even micro- environments like our farm, to operate in a bio-cycle model. This means that we try to limit both the incoming and outgoing nutrients on the property. The leaves that we harvest from the olive trees are put through an extraction process to remove only the active ingredients for our supplements. We use the left over leaf as a mulch to help conserve soil moisture, improve soil carbon, deter weeds and help support a breeding ground for beneficial soil microorganisms. Some of the waste leaf is also fed back to our on-site worm farm. The worms eat the leaves and compost it back into a liquid fertiliser, which we then place back onto the olive trees. This circular cycle ensures that the trees continue to source their nutrients as nature intended, from the composting of their own leaf fall. It also reduces the total carbon footprint of the farm as we do not need to source highly processed fertilisers.

We use an integrated pest management system, where we release beneficial insects to help control insect pest populations.

The entire property has been designed to include a wildlife corridor through its centre. This area of forest and lakes allows the local native animals (koalas, kangaroos, dingoes and more) to travel through.

Our property is located in a relatively low rainfall area and we need to ensure that all of our water usage is carefully monitored and controlled. We only use drip irrigation systems on our olive tree hedge rows as this is the most water-conserving method. We also have a system installed to recycle the water that is used in the extraction process. This ensures that the water usage requirements are at least 80% lower than traditional methods.
