Getting Organized for the New Year

With every new year comes a clean slate and a chance to start anew. In some cases, part of starting fresh involves creating a list of goals and resolutions to make improvements in our lives. One popular resolution on many people’s lists this year is to become better organized. Not only does organization positively affect our physical environment, but it benefits our productivity and mental-emotional wellbeing, too.

One of the key secrets shared among successful people across the globe is by placing thoughtful emphasis on organization both at home and in the office. Here, we’ll explore some of our favorite strategies for making 2017 one of the best years yet!

  1. Put Pen to Paper: It is often said that our physical environment is a reflection of our inner mental state. Take a look around. Do things look messy and cluttered? This could be a result of the mental clutter that resides in the mind. Find a place to organize all those thoughts by identifying problem areas in regards to organization and then create a list of action items to tackle until everything is finally back in its right place once again.
  2. Ask and Ye Shall Receive: Sometimes things are so hectic it can be difficult to find the time for getting properly organized. Don’t be afraid to reach out for help! Try gathering friends and family together who share similar same goals and discuss ways you can help each other. Is a friend too busy to run a necessary errand? Run the errand for them in exchange for some help picking up around the house at a later date. I’ll scratch your back if you scratch mine!
  3. The Magic of Music: Interestingly enough, music can be a great source of inspiration for tackling repetitive chores. Most music today is comprised of a repetitive beat or riff that can actually complement the redundancy of routine tasks. In other words, it’s a fun way to trick the brain into getting excited about the act of repetition. For best results, opt for something upbeat in a major tone of key to inspire higher levels of energy.
