Manuka Honey

From the hive to the shelf, trust Comvita UMF Manuka Honey

Ingredients background

In the beehive there is a special magic. Watch "A day with Jono" to follow one of our amazing beekeepers from dawn to dusk, allowing a glimpse in to the world of a beekeeper.

At 63, our founder, Claude Stratford started making and selling a range of bee products from the basement in his home. No other company knows Manuka honey like Comvita.

That was 1974 and a new generation of people were hungry for a different kind of knowledge: how to live in tune with nature and ‘with life’ – the Latin meaning of Comvita. Bees were their teachers. And honey their nectar.

There in the hive they saw a model community, an intricate networked intelligence. Bees sharing messages with each other, thriving together on ingredients that could nourish, protect, restore and revitalise.

To take this natural wisdom to the world was their vision – the courage to reconnect us to the source of our health within nature and within us. What they knew intuitively they set out to prove, applying science and research respectfully, not to alter, but to deeply understand nature.

In a global hive of networked intelligence we’ll share stories to inspire each other about how to live and be well.

All Comvita UMF® Manuka Honey is traceable to its source - from the hive to the shelf.

We work closely with our bees and beekeepers to produce UMF® Manuka Honey of the highest quality. From New Zealand’s rugged central North Island volcanic plateau, to the bush clad hills of Northland, there are many factors that can affect the quality of Manuka honey - it’s a natural product so the sun, wind and rain all play a part.

Our beekeepers are the experts in the honey crop and use the Comvita quality system, they understand that only the best honey will make the Comvita Honey quality grade.

Manuka honey is one of nature’s special gifts, sourced by honeybees from Manuka (Leptospermum scoparium) flowers in remote areas of New Zealand. Manuka honey is valued for its contribution to a healthy diet and is world famous for its unique properties not found in ordinary honeys.

The unique properties of Comvita’s Manuka honey have also long been recognised for their ability to support healthy skin and promote wound healing.
